The Last Unicorn is a beautiful novel about a Unicorn who is told that she is the last of her kind that exists, and sets out in search of other unicorns. She hears on the way that the others are being held captive by something called the Red Bull. She meets a goofy magician on the way, who accompanies her on her journey. On the way she discovers many things she had never known before, including fear, friendship, love, magic, and mortality. An animated movie version of the story came out in 1982, and it is the most beautiful movie I have ever seen, which can be attributed to the fact that the screenplay was coordinated by the original author of the novel, half of the animation staff was Japanese, and they used very talented voice actors. It also has a beautiful soundtrack, in which all songs were performed by the amazing band America. I first saw the movie in my childhood days when I was maybe 5 years old, and the true magic and beauty of the movie has stuck with me ever since. Just because it is animated doesn't mean that it is a kids' movie per se -- the story and the things it communicates are as universal as life itself, and if willing to listen, a person of any age can derive meaning from it, possibly even having large significance to his/her own life. The story is communicated in a way that leads me to believe that it is of a world more real than my own. The story is, and continues to be, something very important in my life, contributing to make me who I am today, as well as the most magical, beautiful, and most touching story I have ever seen or read. If you have been feeling that your life is lacking in adventure or something worthwhile, I urge you to go to your nearest video rental store and rent a copy of The Last Unicorn. I am not going to create anything larger than this informational page, since there are already several sites out there with more information and media than I could ever dream of obtaining. But follow the links below for more information on this wonderful book/movie, as well as pictures, sounds, music, excerpts, and links to more information. I hope I have helped you to find something you will appreciate for years to come.
